Meole Brace Golf Course Management Contract
AI Summary
Shropshire Council is seeking market input on the future provision of an integrated golf course management service for Meole Brace Golf Course. The engagement focuses on a comprehensive suite of golf‑specific operations, from instructional programmes and shop retail to green‑fee administration and customer interaction, to identify the most effective delivery models ahead of a potential formal procurement. The contract will be structured to support ongoing leisure services while ensuring the course remains fully viable and operational.
The proposed management package would include a dedicated golf profession service that offers individual and group instruction, develops tailored coaching programmes for beginners, juniors, women and return‑to‑golf participants, and operates a teaching studio equipped with appropriate coaching technology and aids. Retail and customer‑service responsibilities for the golf shop—selling equipment, apparel and basic food and drink—will require staff who are trained, on duty seven days a week, with summer hours from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and winter hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The operator will also collect green fees, manage tee bookings, provide daily customer interface, liaise closely with the council's grounds‑maintenance team to coordinate playability and competition planning, and monitor course usage patterns to supply performance data to the council.
The exercise is linked to a wider leisure management contract that will be awarded in 2027, under which the golf‑course management contractor will need to enter into a novation agreement and maintain the same level of service throughout the contract term, which runs until 2037 with a possible five‑year extension. The contract requires the operator to provide, install and maintain a dedicated teaching studio equipped with the necessary coaching technology and teaching aids.
Description
The purpose of this engagement is to test market appetite, capability and delivery models for golf course management services prior to any potential future procurement. This exercise is exploratory only and does not form part of a formal tender process.
