Provision of Swimming Pools and Lessons for School Children
AI Summary
Derbyshire County Council is preparing to procure swimming facilities and associated instructional services to support the delivery of its School Swimming Programme across the county. The Council seeks to engage capable facility providers who can host and staff a programme capable of accommodating up to 35 children per session, including pupils in Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, and those identified as SEND. Services will be delivered throughout the academic year, spanning 30 core instructional weeks with additional top‑up weeks for extended coverage, and the timetable is required to follow a bespoke curriculum designed to align with National Curriculum outcomes.
The facilities selected must be situated in close proximity to population centres within each district, providing secure drop‑off and pick‑up access suitable for large coaches. Accessible changing areas are mandatory, including dedicated disabled changing facilities equipped with adjustable beds and hoists. Each site is also expected to possess a range of fixed hoists and/or pods—preferably sling hoists and wheelchair pods—for the safest support of the youngest users. In accordance with national safety and safeguarding regulations, all participating venues must adhere to NOP, EAP, H+S policies and maintain comprehensive risk assessments.
In addition to these operational specifications, instructional staff will be required to hold qualified Level 2 teaching credentials within South Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, High Peak, and Bolsover districts. The service provider must also ensure full compliance with nationally recognised standards for safety, welfare, and accessibility across all aspects of the programme.
