Strengthening Cultural Capability and Trauma Informed Care in Women’s Health

AI Summary

NHS England is procuring a provider to strengthen cultural capability and trauma‑informed care across all women’s health services. The objective is to deliver a comprehensive, ongoing training programme that equips every NHS England region with the knowledge and skills to listen to women, recognise procedural pain, and provide culturally competent care. The contractor will build lasting training capacity, supply integrated care boards with practical guidance to sustain local delivery, and develop a complete, refreshable set of instructional materials that NHS England will own and update as the capability framework evolves.

The programme will be designed and delivered in direct response to the experiences and voices of women, particularly those from Global Majority communities and the Core20 population, and will be shaped by frontline workforce input. By embedding these perspectives, the contract aims to create lasting transformation in how women’s health services respond to underserved populations. The programme will be developed in accordance with NHS England’s capability framework and shaped by input from women of the Global Majority and Core20 communities.

Description

Strengthening Cultural Capability and Trauma Informed Care in Women’s Health
The work has a specific focus on three linked problems: women not being listened to, the under recognition and normalisation of procedural pain, and the disproportionate impact of both on women from the Global Majority.
Aims and objectives:
1. To improve how the women’s health workforce listens and responds to women, recognises and acts on pain, and delivers culturally competent care.
2. To build lasting training capacity in every NHS England region rather than deliver a one off national course.
3. To give integrated care boards practical guidance so they can sustain local delivery and commission further work in this area themselves.
4. To ensure the programme is shaped by the experience of the workforce and by what women have told NHS England, including women from Global Majority communities and women from the Core20 population.
5. To leave NHS England owning a complete and refreshable set of materials that can be updated as the capability framework develops.
